10th September 2021

Dear families,

It has been wonderful to see our pupils back together in school able to access the full range of opportunities and interacting with their peers. A special welcome to all new families joining CMCS this September; we are delighted to see our Reception, Year 7 and new Mosaic pupils join the school community.

Thank you to all parents and carers supporting pupils to arrive on time and fully equipped ready to start the new school term.

Secondary Phase School Day – start times
A reminder that lessons begin in the secondary phase at 8.50am on Mondays and 8.30am on Tuesdays to Fridays therefore secondary age pupils are expected to be on site by 8.40am on Mondays and 8.20am all other days to ensure a prompt start to the day.

Primary Phase School Day – start times
Children from Year 1 to Year 5 are starting school at 8.45am every day and can access school either through the front gate (car park) or into the playground at the back of school. These year groups can all line up in either location. Reception children should line up at the gate next to the Reception outdoor area. Year 6 children should line up by the gate from the public footpath into the playground.

Parent Pay
To facilitate the aim of no cash on site, we would request that you set up a Parent Pay account with which you can add funds to enable your child to purchase food and drink as well as pay for additional school items. If you are unclear as to how to set up a ParentPay account or would like some support with this, please contact either phase school office directly. Further details attached (note Year 7 username / passwords have been sent separately).

Through School Open Day
We will be holding a Through School Open Day on Saturday 9th October 2021 (10.00 – 1.00pm). This event is particularly aimed at pupils who have just entered their final year at Primary School and would like to apply to attend Carr Manor Community School in September 2022 and pupils who wish to join our Reception class in September 2022. It is good to note that our school is full, with waiting lists in all year groups. If you know of anyone thinking of joining our school community next year, please encourage them to visit us on this date.

Collecting pupils at the end of the day
We are proud to say that the school community is now the biggest we have ever been. This understandably means that the end of the school day can be busy and the safety of all our pupils is of paramount importance.

Please do not, unless for medical reasons, use the school car park to collect your child. Parking in close proximity to the school gates and bus collection points is a safety hazard; please park on available neighbouring streets and where suitable arrange for your child to walk to meet you and be collected away from the immediate exit points of the school.

Flexible Learning
Flexible Learning will restart w/c 13th September and will provide opportunities for pupils in all year groups to engage in a range of exciting activities before school, at lunchtime and after school. A wide range of clubs and groups will be on offer, and pupils will receive the timetable w/c 13th September with further details.

Secondary Phase – Home Lateral Flow Device testing
Once again, this term we will be offering home test kits to all secondary phase pupils to enable them to be tested at home. We will be issuing these to children w/c 13th September and your child will receive enough home testing kits to last until after the half term break in the first instance. Two tests should be taken each week; we recommend Tuesday and Friday evening.

Instructions which provide information on how to take the tests correctly and then log the results with the NHS Test & Trace system will also be provided with the kits. A privacy notice that explains how the NHS will use your child’s information is available on our website at If you have any queries about COVID-19 testing at home, please email [email protected] or phone the school.

Independent Learning
We believe that is it important for children to continue their learning beyond lesson time in order to develop independent study skills and consolidate new learning. At Carr Manor, we refer to this as Independent Learning. From Reception through to Year 11, we expect children to engage in Independent Learning activities, including accessing online resources where appropriate, and such activities will be set by teachers each week. To support this:

  • From Monday 20th September, pupils in the secondary phase will be able to complete Independent Learning activities in a quiet supervised environment with access to computers, between 3.00pm and 4.00pm each day.
  • We have a small number of laptops available to loan to children for those with limited access to digital devices at home. Please ask your child to speak with their Coach if they would like to borrow one.
  • We ask for your support in encouraging your child to discuss their Independent Learning with you at home.

You can find out more about the frequency and nature of the activities being set by going to

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Best wishes
