2nd December 2021

Dear families,

We hope that you are keeping well as we approach the end of the autumn term.

As you will be aware, pupils in Year 7 to Year 11 have now been asked to wear face masks in indoor communal areas when at school and when travelling on public and school transport. This guidance from the Department for Education is for all pupils in the specified age-range unless medically exempt and we are pleased that our pupils continue to respond in a positive and mature way to the Covid measures. Thank you for your support with this.

The Government have also requested that schools plan to make available Lateral Flow Testing to pupils in secondary year groups before a January return and for us to continue to monitor any further guidance issued about the return for all year groups after the break. Therefore, testing and preparation for our return will take place on Tuesday 4th January and school will re-open for all year groups (Reception to Year 11) on Wednesday 5th January at 8.30am for Year 6-11 and 8.45am for Reception to Year 5.

In light of the developments around new strains of the virus, and the need to minimise unnecessary opportunities for transmission, we are regrettably making some adjustments to our school calendar over the final weeks of term. Activities that previously had included families being invited into school will now be rescheduled or moved to online events to enable us to do all we can to protect these important events for our school community. The Christmas showcase will be filmed and emailed to the families of pupils participating. Our Primary Phase nativity will also follow this format. Additionally, we will be postponing our Grandparents’ Day in the Primary Phase until the spring term.

Your understanding about these decisions is appreciated and we will ensure that wherever possible pupils are able to continue to have a broad and rich curriculum experience, keeping changes and adjustments to the minimum.

We have been asked to remind all families of pupils aged 12-15 that children in this age range are eligible for their first vaccination. This can be done through your local GP or through vaccination clinics across the city which are bookable online.

A reminder that school will finish at 12.00pm for Year 6-11 and 12.15pm for Reception to Year 5 on Friday 17th December. I hope that you and your family are able to have a peaceful break over the festive period.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Best wishes
