22nd July 2022
As we draw to a close another successful and enjoyable year, I wanted to write to you to share some of this final term’s highlights and achievements and to thank you for your ongoing support. We are extremely proud of all of our pupils and the way in which they have continued to develop the characteristics that we value so highly in school.
We made the difficult decision to reschedule both of our Sports Days during the last week of term due to the weather warnings in place from the Government. We always enjoy these events, so will be in touch when appropriate with details of the rescheduled dates. We thank you for your support with this.
Our exiting Year 11 pupils enjoyed their Prom, which was held in school on Thursday 30th June. The Theatre was transformed into a Hollywood-inspired venue, which was the setting for our awards ceremony, special CarrManorTV viewing and of course a dance floor.
We wish all our leavers the very best for their next steps and look forward to welcoming them into school on Thursday 25th August to collect their GCSE results.
It was a pleasure to hold our Presentation Afternoon on Friday 1st July, where a range of pupils from Reception – Year 11 were rewarded for displaying excellent character across school.
We are delighted that a range of pupils have been able to go on field trips this term, with locations including Malham, the Lake District, Bridlington and Skelton Grange.
We are currently running an extensive series of summer schools, trips, transition programmes and intervention over the break for pupils across the whole through-school. We hope that lots of pupils will be able to take advantage of the programmes on offer.
Our Primary Phase PTA held the annual Summer Fete on Friday 8th July in the Primary grounds. It was a fantastic afternoon, with over 700 tickets sold. There were a range of activities taking place, including inflatable slides, bouncy castles, a performance from the Phoenix Dancers, arcade games and the highly-anticipated ‘soak the teacher’.
Our Year 6 pupils have taken part in our 6+ transition programme since 28th June, in which they have had the through-school advantage of a bespoke curriculum to ensure they are fully prepared for a strong start in Year 7. This cross-phase term has worked well to deliver this fantastic opportunity to our Year 6 pupils.
Year 6 SATs
We would like to say well done to Year 6 for all their enthusiasm and work across the broad curriculum in Year 6. Their resilience and motivation in preparing for KS2 SATs paid off, with pleasing SATs results. This is the first formal set of SATs assessments since 2019, and we are pleased that our results are higher than the national figures, in some subjects significantly. Thank you to the children, KS2 staff and the support from home – this is a real-life example of partners in learning.
Please find enclosed your child’s progress report for this half-term if they are in Years 8 – 11. Primary Phase progress reports were issued to families at the end of the Summer 1 Term. Please note the changed criteria on the Coaching and Coaching Plus section of the progress report. We have introduced a new set of criteria, which may have affected the grades your child has received. We are raising the expectations regarding how pupils engage in Coaching and influence each other, with staff working to help pupils achieve well under this new criteria. Please contact your child’s coach if you have any queries regarding these reports.
Please see included in this envelope an attendance poster for pupils in Years 5 – 11 as a reminder that we are all working together to achieve good attendance.
Contribution to the Community
Thank you to families who have contributed to our uniform and book recycling scheme. We are still happy to receive donations, so if you have any spare books (suitable for ages 3-16) or uniform that you would like to donate, please contact our school reception. It is the time of year when we sadly say goodbye to some members of staff. Be it leaving to train to be a teacher or travelling across other continents. We would like to give all of our exiting staff the very best wishes for the future, and thank each and every one of them for the contributions they have made to our children and our school.
