16th December 2022
Dear families,
Thank you for your continued support during this term, which has been filled with a range of activities both in and out of the classroom. Just some of these events include Inspiration Days, Year 11 Thackray Museum visit, rehearsals for our upcoming High School Musical performance, Christmas Showcase, Basecamp residential, Grandparents Day, Meanwood Christmas lights switch-on, Make It 20 launch, Study School Showcase and the Year 6 Macbeth performance at the Alhambra Theatre.
Upcoming Meet Your Coach Day & week: Thank you to families who attended the Meet Your Coach Day events this term. Please note that Monday 6th February is our next Meet Your Coach Day for Years R – 6, and Wednesday 8th February is Parent/Carer Consultation Evening for Years 6 and 7, with Meet Your Coach Day appointments for all years.
Christmas events: We were delighted to be able to welcome families into school again to experience our Christmas Showcase as a live event. It was a fabulous evening celebrating a range of talents. We have also enjoyed our Big Sing for Years 5 – 8, Reception Nativity, KS1 and KS2 Christmas Parties and the Singalong in the Primary Phase.
Year 7 midterm assessments: Year 7 pupils have their midterm exams from 9th – 20th January. Your child has received a letter with a timetable of their assessments and a revision pack. Please discuss the importance of using the revision material to prepare effectively for the assessments with your child.
Year 9 assessments: Year 9 pupils have their assessments from 30th January – 3rd February. Pupils will receive a timetable and revision pack during the Spring 1 Term.
Year 11 mocks: Year 11 pupils have their mock exams w/c 6th February and w/c 20th February. Please encourage your child to attend the relevant intervention sessions which run each day after school. We will also be running intervention in the February half-term holidays to support these exams.
Year 11 GCSE & BTEC exams: Please note that the first set of Year 11 exams are taking place in the Spring 1 Term on the following dates; 9th January – Creative iMedia; 10th January – CAMNAT Sport; 30th January – Health & Social Care.
Christmas card competition: We held our Christmas card design competition for pupils in the Primary Phase and Year 7, with the winning design then emailed to friends of CMCS. Congratulations to Ava Greenwood-Manzur in Year 7 whose design was chosen as the winner, and to Leah Goonesinghe, Year 5, and Sebastian Hosseiny, Year 7, who were runners up.
Progress Reports: Your child’s progress report is an important capture of their attitude towards their learning and their progress achieved this half-term. Please ensure that you have spoken with your child about their report to recognise their achievements and accomplishments as well as discuss areas for focus and improvement.
Independent Learning: Independent Learning is Carr Manor’s way of setting tasks and activities to be completed outside of the classroom.
Pupils in Years R – 6 can access their Independent Learning worksheets on our website at www.carrmanor.org.uk/independent-learning.
Pupils in Years 7 – 11 are set Independent Learning on Microsoft Teams for a range of subjects every two weeks. Maths work is set on paper. Please see the Independent Learning leaflet in this envelope for further details.
Please discuss with your child the importance of completing their Independent Learning regularly and where possible, we encourage you to log into Microsoft Teams with your child (Years 7 – 11) to see how they have been engaging with the work.
Flexible Learning: We are proud to host a variety of Flexible Learning clubs for pupils in all year groups. Please encourage your child to join as many clubs as possible. A reminder of the clubs we run can be found on our website – www.carrmanor.org.uk/flexible-learning.
School uniform: We have a stock of good quality second-hand uniform that is available to all families. Please speak to main reception in either phase for further information on this. Any additional donations are gratefully received.
Attendance: School reopens on Tuesday 3rd January. Both phases will be open at the usual times of 8.45am in the Primary Phase and 8.20am in the Secondary Phase.
In both phases, pupils will receive complimentary hot chocolate and toast on this day. Primary Phase pupils will receive theirs in coaching and Secondary Phase pupils can enjoy it on arrival before period one.
Our expectation that pupils and families strive for the best attendance possible, showing resilience and commitment, remains high. Punctuality is also vitally important – being at school regularly and on time allows pupils to make the most of their learning and the wider opportunities we offer.
Governors: We are pleased to confirm that Sarah Byde has joined the school’s governing body as a parent governor. Sarah has children in Years 2 and 5. We can also announce that Anastasia Karanika-Payne, currently Foundation Governor, will be moving back to Parent Governor. Anastasia has children in Years 7 and 10.
