Further Learning gives pupils independence and allows them to make accelerated progress in lessons.

Primary phase Further Learning

In Reception – Year 6, we focus on our ‘Partners in Learning’ ethos, which includes school and home working together to help children learn and enjoy.

The Further Learning projects link to our Big Learning Questions in school that cover our learning in the foundation subjects. We very much welcome support from home in encouraging pupils to complete this work. Pupils who complete this Further Learning not only develop skills that will help them in later life, but also make accelerated progress in lessons.

The Further Learning sheets are uploaded to our website each week. You can find these by clicking on the relevant year group below.

Secondary phase Independent Learning

In the secondary phase, our pupils now complete Independent Learning, rather than Further Learning.

In years 7 – 9, pupils are set Independent Learning tasks by their teachers. The tasks are set on Microsoft Teams, which pupils access via their Office 365 accounts. By completing this Independent Learning, pupils are building on the skills they develop in lessons and consolidating their learning.

In Years 10 and 11, learning beyond the classroom is essential for building organisation and independent learning skills in preparation for examinations and post 16 study. Pupils receive Independent Learning activities assigned to them by their teachers, via Microsoft Teams.

Pupils are encouraged to complete this Independent Learning outside of school, either at home or by attending our intervention sessions. In Year 10, pupils also have one timetabled lesson a week to complete Independent Learning, and Year 11 pupils have two.
