All pupils at Carr Manor Community School engage in our Personal Development Programme (PDP) where they are taught about a variety of different topics to equip them become healthy, safe, and successful adults. It is an important part of our deliberate effort to build character in our pupils.
This year, Year 10 PDP has involved pupils focusing on Citizenship-based content as we look to develop critical thinking skills and have pupils develop curiosity about the world around them. Consequently, all Year 10 pupils are going to have the opportunity to express a preference as to whether they would like to be submitted for a GCSE in Citizenship in the summer of 2025.
GCSE Citizenship is assessed through two written exams in May. Pupils will be supported in their preparation for these exams with a hybrid curriculum involving remote learning, after school sessions, and drop-down days. It will provide pupils with an opportunity to have the experience of the formal examination and accreditation process ahead of Year 11.
A form will be sent to the school email address of all Year 10 pupils on Thursday 30th January, asking for the expression of their preference. We would encourage pupils to put themselves forwards for this opportunity if they have found the PDP content interesting this year and believe they have the independence to put in the necessary effort outside of the classroom to be ready for their exams.
Any further questions regarding this opportunity can be directed to Mr Dodd either in person or via email at [email protected].
