Train to Teach in MFL

On this MFL course, you will be working with a team of people to encourage pupils to improve their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills, giving a different insight into the world. The Leeds SCITT MFL course provides you with the opportunity to specialise in either French or Spanish at KS3 and KS4 level.

Carr Manor Community School’s international work includes trips abroad, twinning projects and a celebration of the different cultures of the school. Teachers at Carr Manor Community School have been linking up with colleagues overseas to share successful classroom practice and resources to make this all happen. In your teacher training, you will be supported through collaborative projects with partner schools abroad. This will give you an essential global dimension to your teaching, subject knowledge and opportunity to discover new methods to develop the skills in your pupils as global citizens of the future.

“I HAVE FELT REALLY SUPPORTED BY ALL STAFF. I’VE EXPERIENCED THE OPPORTUNITY TO OBSERVE OUTSTANDING PRACTICE ACROSS THE SCHOOL IN ORDER TO DEVELOP MY OWN PRACTICE. THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR ME TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GAIN FEEDBACK TO IMPROVE AS A TEACHER.”

Train to Teach in History

Leeds SCITT aims to get you into the classroom quickly to learn with a ‘hands on’ approach and to become an experienced practitioner quickly. You will continue to develop your excellent subject knowledge and will be taught how to develop pupils’ historical understanding such as significance, cause and consequence, change and continuity, chronological understanding and source analysis through a wide variety of techniques and strategies.

This course offers a unique opportunity to develop your experience in dynamic and supportive school environments, whilst allowing you to establish your own style of teaching.

“INSTEAD OF SITTING IN A LECTURE THEATRE LEARNING ABOUT BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT, I WAS ABLE TO OBSERVE A CLASS AND THEN PUT THE STRATEGIES IN TO PRACTICE. IT PROVIDED A GREAT PLATFORM FOR WHEN I FIRST TOOK OVER MY CLASSES AND EVEN FOR TODAY. IT ALSO GAVE ME THE INITIAL CONFIDENCE I NEEDED”

Train to Teach in Religious Education

With the support of your Lead Tutor, you will develop a deeper knowledge of your subject and how to inform our own political and social understanding of moral issues facing young people today. Your role as an RE teacher is a rewarding one as the study of Religious Education is interesting for its own sake and useful in that it provides an insight into the study of ideas and their accompanying debates.

You will help pupils to examine their own ideas and raise questions where you may not have thought there would be questions before, as well as developing analytical skills.

“BEING ABLE TO GET HANDS ON STRAIGHT AWAY IN LESSONS WAS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY AND THE MENTORS WERE HAPPY TO GO AT MY PACE AND WERE ALWAYS VERY ENCOURAGING. THE FEEDBACK I RECEIVED DURING THIS YEAR WAS INVALUABLE AND ALLOWED ME TO DEVELOP A RANGE OF TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGIES AND STRONG POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT SKILLS.
MY PLACEMENT AT CARR MANOR WAS ESPECIALLY REWARDING AND MY EXPERIENCES THERE STILL HAVE A STRONG IMPACT ON MY TEACHING PRACTICE TODAY. THE HUMANITIES STAFF AT CMCS ARE VERY SUPPORTIVE. BEING ABLE TO WORK ALONGSIDE FANTASTIC RS SPECIALISTS AND SUPPORTIVE MENTORS WAS THE BEST WAY TO START MY TEACHING CAREER!”
