18th June 2025

Dear families,

As we move into the final term of this academic year, we would like to thank you as always for your continued support. During the first part of this half-term, we have enjoyed a range of activities both in and out of the classroom. Just some of these experiences include the 10th anniversary of the Carr Manor Dash, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, Primary Phase Careers Fair, Basecamp trip to Windermere, Year 3 sleepover, Year 10 work experience, volunteering at the Leeds Marathon and Jane Tomlinson 10k water station, the Friends of Carr Manor Summer Fair and the hosting of a Leeds Rhinos press conference.

Year 6+ Programme: One of the many advantages of being a through-school is the opportunity to work closely with our current Year 6 pupils as they prepare to transition into the Secondary Phase in September. To support this, our Year 6 pupils will take part in a Year 6+ programme during the final four weeks of the summer term. While their Year 6 class teachers and their coaches will remain their main points of contact, pupils will follow a timetable of Year 7 style lessons designed to help them adjust to the routines and learning experiences of the Secondary Phase. This programme aims to build confidence, foster independence, and ensure a smooth and positive start to this exciting next stage of their education.

Progress Reports: Pupils in Years 6 – 10 have their progress reports within these envelopes. Please ensure that you have spoken with your child about their report to recognise their achievements and accomplishments as well as discuss areas for focus and improvement. Pupils in Reception – Year 6 will be receiving their written reports at the end of term.

Timetable change: Pupils in Years 7 – 10 will move up to their new academic year on Tuesday 24th June. Please find their new timetables enclosed. Pupils in Years 3 – 6 who are taught by Secondary Phase specialists will have lessons with their new teachers from this date.

GCSE Exams: We are coming to the end of the GCSE exam period which has been a challenging time for our Year 11 pupils. We are extremely proud of their determination, resilience and commitment throughout this time and look forward to celebrating with them at Results Day on Thursday 21st August.

Year 7 / 8 Finals: Our Year 7 and 8 pupils have completed their final examinations for the year and we are proud of the maturity they have shown throughout this time. Their reports are included in these envelopes.

Data Collection and Consent Forms: It is important that we have up-to-date information regarding your child on our records. Please check and make any necessary changes to the enclosed Data Collection Form. Please also complete and return the ‘Your Consent’ document. In the Primary Phase, these can be returned to main reception, and in the Secondary Phase, pupils can return these to their coach or main reception. Please return these by Friday 27th June.

Uniform: The wearing of uniform ensures a community feel throughout school. A reminder that our uniform policy can be found on our website, www.carrmanor.org.uk/uniform. Please note that from 23rd June 2025, black Carr Manor jumpers, worn by Year 5 upwards, will have a price increase from £12 to £12.50.

Parking: We encourage parents/carers to use the Primary or Secondary Phase car parks when dropping off / picking up your child from school. Please be mindful of the local community and do not stop / park on Carr Manor Road / Stainbeck Lane where possible. Thank you for your support in making the surrounding streets safe for our pupils.

Key dates: Please see a list of key dates here.

Finally, some of you may already be aware that Simon Flowers is stepping down from his role as Executive Principal at the end of the summer term. Mr Flowers has led Carr Manor Community School for over twenty years and has been pivotal in building the foundations on which the school’s success so firmly stands.

Andrew Tidswell, Chair of Governors, reflecting on Mr Flowers’ years of service, has said, “On behalf of the Governing Body, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Simon and mark our admiration for all he has achieved in his time with CMCS. His qualities of leadership, dedication and humility are an inspiration to all of us. He has created a legacy at Carr Manor that will be felt by generations of families across our community.”

Mr Flowers has also reflected on his time leading the school; “It has been my honour and deep privilege to have led the Carr Manor community and to have been responsible for the development of the children and staff of the school for so many years. The school is well placed to continue to go from strength to strength with experienced and skilled leadership from Ms Lakin, the senior leadership team, the governing body and a superb staff team driving forward the next phase of the school’s future. I am immensely proud of all the children, families and colleagues I have had the pleasure to work with and wish the school all the very best for the future”.

We are pleased to continue to work with Mr Flowers over the coming months in his role as CEO of the Leeds Learning Alliance and on a part time basis as an advisor, developing partnerships and our community hub. However, I know you will join me in expressing your gratitude and thanks for the public service, leadership and dedication Mr Flowers has given to our school community.

Yours faithfully,

Lucie Lakin
Principal
